I started Winners way back when I was compiling songs for Hit Parade. I thought I'd do some recording with Wreckless Eric. I wrote this one for him because he's the quintessential underdog. I sent him a demo of it too. We never ended up recording together so it languished. My girlfriend helped make it better by really getting into the story and its intent. I was quite happy with the way this one polished up.
